Computers, furniture worth lakhs missing from schools

Excelsior Correspondent
MENDHAR, Jan 29: Four computers and furniture including desks, plastic chairs and tables provided by Army under ‘Operation Sadbhavana’ to the two Govt Schools at Gohlad  and Upper Gohlad in Mendhar are mysteriously missing while the DyCEO during inquiry  managed to recover two computers and two chairs from a house at the same village today.
Sources said that after the report of missing furniture from schools appeared in the section of newspapers two days back, on the direction of  SDM, the I/C DyCEO paid visit to the Govt Middle School Gohlad and Upper Gohlad in the outskirts of Mendhar town today. The Dy CEO Mohd Sadiq Choudhary after conducting preliminary inquiry recovered two computers, two plastic chairs and two tables from a house on the basis of inputs provided by a local.
He also met the local villagers and Panchayat members who expressed strong resentment over the issue. They alleged that  on the request of  Panchayat members the Army is providing assistance to the schools in the shape of furniture, computers etc  for the students and teachers in school but unfortunately some greedy teachers have shifted the same to their home and the headmaster or ZEO concerned were sleeping over the issue. They said it is not the isolated case, in many other schools where items under Sadbhavna  have been given by Army, have now gone missing.
A special team is needed to be framed to hold inquiry and register cases against the staff / teachers  involved in the theft/ pilferage.
Meanwhile, no FIR has got registered by the CEO Poonch, DyCEO or ZEO concerned in this connection or action taken against any teacher so far.   CEO Mr Fani when contacted initially expressed ignorance over the matter. Later, while downplaying the incident maintained that there was no light in the school  and the computers had been dumped in a house in the same locality at Gohlad. When asked what about missing chairs, tables and desks from these two schools, Mr Fani avoided direct reply and said that he had no much details and DyCEO,  who made recovery should lodge an FIR in this connection.
