Jammu, Jan 21: Highlighting the essentiality of a paradigm shift in health care from the diagnostic and therapeutic models to a model of care that embraces whole person care, integrating mind, body and spirit, Dr. Sushil Sharma held a day long health awareness camp at Mathwar Nagri, Akhnoor to mark the annual congregation on the occasion of Basant Panchmi at the Devasthan. More than 400 people were screened, evaluated, diagnosed and free medicines were given as per the requirements
While interacting with the people Dr Sushil HoD Cardiology, GMC Jammu, stated that the technological advances of the past century tended to change the focus of medicine from a caring, service oriented model to a technological, cure-oriented model. “Technology has led to phenomenal advances in medicine and has given us the ability to prolong life. However, in the past few decades physicians have attempted to balance their care by reclaiming medicine’s more spiritual roots, recognizing that until modern times spirituality was often linked with health care. Spiritual or compassionate care involves serving the whole person-the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual. Such service is inherently a spiritual activity,” he added.
Dr Sushil maintained that science suggests an association among stress, depression and heart diseases. Several studies strongly suggests that certain psychosocial factors such as grief, depression and job loss contribute to heart attack and cardiac arrest.  Stress and your reactions can be managed in both healthy and unhealthy ways. Unfortunately many people deal with stress by smoking, drinking too much and over eating. All of these unhealthy habits can contribute to heart disease.
