Srinagar, Jan 12: The nights in Kashmir are colder due to clear skies while the days are warmer than normal winter temperatures due to sunny days.
Srinagar recorded a low of minus 3.2 degrees Celsius, 0.2 degrees Celsius down from minus 3 degrees the previous night. The day temperature was recorded at 12. 7 degrees Celsius, which is 6.1 degrees Celsius above normal.
The night temperature in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at minus 3.2 degrees Celsius, down from yesterday’s minus 2.8 degrees Celsius. The day temperature was recorded at 12. 8 degrees Celsius, which is 6.8 degrees Celsius above normal.
Kokernag town saw the mercury drop to minus 2.0 degrees Celsius from yesterday’s minus 1.6 degrees Celsius. The day temperature was recorded at 11.6 degrees Celsius, which is 7.3 degrees Celsius above normal.
Kupwara in North Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.5 degrees Celsius, down from minus 2.8 degrees Celsius the previous night. The day temperature was recorded at 12. 9 degrees Celsius, which is 6.4 degrees Celsius above normal.
Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of minus 5.4 degrees Celsius up from previous night’s 8.5 degrees Celsius. The day temperature was recorded at 5.8 degrees Celsius, which is 5.3 degrees Celsius above normal.
Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 3.5 degrees Celsius was recorded last night, down from minus 3.3 degrees Celsius the previous night. The day temperature was recorded at 10. 3 degrees Celsius, which is 6.2 degrees Celsius above normal.
Kargil town continued to remain the coldest recorded place in the state as the minimum temperature there settled at minus 14. 8 degrees Celsius, which is up from previous night’s minus 20.6 degrees Celsius. The day temperature was recorded at 6.5 degrees Celsius.
Leh town settled at a low of minus 7.7 degrees Celsius, compared to minus 14.6 degrees Celsius the previous night. The day temperature was recorded at 4.7 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the MET office has forecast mainly dry weather in the state over the next week. “The weather is likely to remain dry till January 17 and we are expecting some precipitation on January 18,” Meteorological Department, Srinagar, director Sonam Lotus told Excelsior.
“We are not expecting heavy precipitation. So, there is no forecast of heavy snowfall as of now. But, we are monitoring its intensity and distribution, whether it will be light or moderate and in higher reaches only or in plains as well,” he said.
