NEW DELHI: Cold and foggy weather conditions continued in parts of north India today with most of Kashmir Valley reeling under sub-zero temperatures and Narnaul in Haryana recording a low of 3 degrees Celsius.

In the national capital, mainly clear skies prevailed during the day even as a dense layer of fog enveloped most parts of the city in the morning which delayed 72 flights and 62 trains.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 9.3 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season’s average, while the maximum temperature was 23.4 degrees Celsius.

Cold wave conditions continued in Kashmir division even as there was slight respite as the mercury went up at most places.

Srinagar recorded a low of minus 4.5 degrees Celsius, an official of the MeT department said.

Leh, in Ladakh region, was the coldest recorded place in Jammu and Kashmir as the night temperature there settled at a low of minus 13.2 degrees Celsius.

In Punjab and Haryana, cold conditions continued to prevail with dense fog affecting road, rail and air traffic due to poor visibility.

Narnaul in Haryana was the coldest place in both the states with a minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius, MeT Department officials said.

Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded minimum temperature at 9.2 degrees Celsius.

Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded their minimums at 5.4 degrees Celsius, 6.8 degrees Celsius and 7.6 degrees Celsius respectively, up to two notches above normal.

In Uttar Pradesh, cold conditions prevailed with Agra recording the lowest temperature in the state at 6.2 degrees Celsius.

According to MeT office, dense to very dense fog occurred at isolated places over East UP while dense fog occurred at isolated places over Western parts of the state last night.

In Rajasthan, night temperature further dipped in parts of the state with Sriganganagar being recorded as the coldest place with minimum of 3.7 degrees Celsius. (AGENCIES)
