JAMMU, Apr 23: Shamsheer Hakla Poonchi, a prominent Gujjar leader of the State has urged Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, to pass a bill in the coming session of J&K Legislative Assembly for continuing reservation in promotion for the State Government employees belonging to ST, SC, other backward classes and backward areas.
Hakla said that in every sphere of life reservation is the need of the hour and is a necessity for the people belonging to SC, ST and OBC categories. “In order to keep them (SC, ST and OBC employees) at par with people belonging to upper castes, their reservation in promotion is an essential requirement”, he added.
Laying a specific stress on the matter, Shamsheer Hakla said that even after 23 years of granting ST status to the Gujjar and Bakarwal community by Government of India, the people of the community are deprived of full benefit of it, as the Gujjar and Bakarwal community of the State is still socially, educationally, economically and politically lagging behind and backward.
