CM seeks Indo-Pak peace

Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti also holds the charge of the Department of Tourism. She recently proceeded on a hectic tour of places of tourism in Jammu. In the process, she visited the border sites of Suchetgarh, Chamblyal, Swankha and the zero line with the view of promoting border tourism in Jammu region. She conceded that Jammu tourism needed a lot to be done to make it a place of attraction.
The Chief Minister gave expression to her vision of opening more links between the two parts of the State and even a Wagah type entry-exit point at Suchetgarh. She said that late Mufti Sayeed had during one of his visits desired that more links should be opened with PoK and people to people exchange encouraged so that peace is restored along the LoC and IB. It is true that owing to hostilities, there occurs loss of life on either side and mostly innocent civilians become the fodder for the guns.
We appreciate any effort by any leader, on our side of the border or on the other side; is directed towards restoration of peace along the LoC. The innocent people lose their precious lives for no fault of theirs and toiling peasants suffer losses of crops and cattle owing to incessant shelling and firing between the two sides. The CM said that border tourism was a mechanism of stabilizing peace in the region. The CM ordered a number of improvement works to be done and road construction to be expedited to reach these tourist spots.
Speaking of Jammu tourism, the Chief Minister named at least half a dozen places in Jammu region, from Kishtwar to Kathua to Rajouri to Poonch were many sites had the potential to grow into tourist spots. We highly appreciate the gesture of the Chief Minister, and at the same time would like to impress upon the Director of Tourism (Jammu) to honour the sentiments of the Chief Minister and draw a comprehensive plan for the development of existing tourist spots and creating new ones. This plan should embody all aspects of modern tourism. People across Jammu region will hail this step as a step in right direction to promote the economy of the region and also provide means of employment to the youth.
