CM pays surprise visit to GMC, attaches MS for insanitation

JAMMU, Nov 30: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today ordered attachment of Medical Superintendent of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, Dr Dara Singh, for insanitary conditions and poor facilities available to the patients in the Hospital, besides his absence in the hospital.
According to official sources, the Chief Minister paid a surprise visit at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu at about 3 pm today to take stock of the sanitation, medical facilities and availability of medicines to the patients.
The Chief Minister visited new emergency, old emergency, various wards and Inpatient units of the Hospital. She also personally inspected the OPD, casualty, wash rooms, corridors and other places in the Hospital and was unhappy to see filthy conditions in and around washrooms, corridors and emergency of the hospital.

During the inspection, Mehbooba Mufti interacted with many patients admitted in the Hospital and their attendants, who complained of unavailability of various drugs and other facilities like blankets in the hospital, besides shortage of beds in emergency which compelled patients to share beds even in critical condition.
Expressing displeasure over the poor sanitation in the Hospital including the condition of wash rooms, air conditioners, beds, bedding and other material, and absence of the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, the Chief Minister ordered his attachment to Directorate of Health Services, Jammu and directed the concerned for improvement in the same.
“Pending enquiry, Dr Dara Singh, Incharge, Medical Superintendent, GMCH Jammu, is hereby attached with the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu and Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Deputy Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, shall look after routine work of the post of Medical Superintendent, GMCH Jammu, in addition to his own duties till further orders”, the order issued by the Health and Medical Education Department said.
The Chief Minister’s office, it may be recalled, had been getting reports of poor sanitation and facilities in the Hospital over the past few months. During a recent review meeting with Administrative Secretaries, she had directed the concerned Department to take measures for improving the sanitation and service at the Hospital.
