RAMBAN, Nov 9: Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Ramban rejected the bail application of a Patwari involved in a kidnapping and rape case registered against his colleague Patwari.
As per police sources, sensing the gravity of the case, CJM Ramban rejected the bail application of the Patwari namely Nawaz Ahmed posted at Rajgarh after his involvement surfaced in a rape and kidnapping case registered against his colleague Nayeem with Police Station Ramban.
“Patwari Nawaz is in custody for the past over four days, but no action has been initiated against him by the District Administration”, sources said, adding that if a Government employee remains in police custody for 24 hours or more is warranted to be suspended, but the District Administration is shielding the Patwari at the behest of some senior officials.
Meanwhile, Tehsildar Rajgarh has asked the Police Department to provide the status report of the case registered under FIR Number 161/17 under Sections 366 and 109 RPC in which Patwari Nawaz Ahmed has been arrested, which is against the law.
“To proceed further in the case, Tehsildar also directed the SHO Ramban Police Station to produce all the relevant records on the basis of which the arrest has been made, for which the Tehsildar is not empowered as the matter pertains to the Criminal Court”, sources said.
Sources added that the intimation regarding the registration of both the FIRs against Patwari Nayeem and Patwari Nawaz and arrest of the latter have already been communicated to the Revenue Department, but still no action has been taken against the accused.
When contacted, SSP Ramban Mohan Lal told the Excelsior that after putting in strenuous efforts, a police team from Ramban Police Station rescued the kidnapped girl from Srinagar and will be handed over to her parents after completing legal formalities. “The accused Patwari Nayeem is still at large and hunt is going on to arrest him”, he added.  “We have received no intimation regarding suspension of the accused”, he informed.
