Srinagar, July 16: State Judicial Academy today organised one day special programme on “Judicial Ethics” for all Judicial Officers of Kashmir province.
Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed, Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir (Patron-in-Chief J&K State Judicial Academy) inaugurated the programme and addressed the Judicial Officers.
In his inaugural address, Chief Justice emphasised that the people who listen to their conscience are by and large naturally ethical people but of course there are those who do not listen to their conscience and are blinded by greed and averse. “Judicial Ethics covers independence, impartiality and avoidance of impropriety”, he added.
Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Chairman, J&K State Legal Services Authority, chaired the session on International and Domestic Principles on Judicial conduct. He interacted with the Judicial Officers on various issues relating to Judicial Ethics and standard of Judicial Conduct and behaviour.
Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey delivered the special address. While highlighting the importance of judicial ethics, integrity and discipline, he said that Judicial Ethics and ethos are the basic principles for judges and that the judges must maintain high standards of Judicial Ethics.
Justice Bilal Nazki, Chairperson, J&K Human Rights Commission and Justice Husnain Masoodi, Former Judge High Court of J&K chaired the working sessions on Personality of a Judge and Standards of Judicial conduct and interacted with the participant judges by sharing their rich and varied experiences on Judicial Ethics.
District Judges, Sub-Judges and Munsiffs of Kashmir Province participated in the programme and interacted with the Resource Persons in the brainstorming sessions.
Abdul Rashid Malik, Director, State Judicial Academy moderated all the sessions.
