SRINAGAR, Apr 26: Army this evening foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara sector and fierce gun battle is going on.
Sources said that 16 Madras regiment of Army noticed movement of a militant group inside Indian territory on the LoC at Kainthawali Jumagund in Kupwara sector at around 7:30 p.m. The militant group was challenged leading to a fierce gun battle, which is going on. Sources said that around 6 militants were corned by the troops and more troops were rushed to the area to conduct the operation.
And a civilian was killed after militants fired upon a police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) patrol in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district and two Special Police Officers (SPOs) and a civilian were injured in a grenade attack on a Police Station in Kulgam today.
Shafeeq Shabir Shah son of Shabir Ahmad Shah of Shopian was injured in the attack at Lazibal Chowk in district Anantnag this afternoon after militants attacked the patrol party.
Shah was rushed to District Hospital Anantnag where from he was referred to Srinagar for treatment. However, he succumbed on the way to Srinagar.
Thousands of people attend the funeral of Shah. As soon as the body of the slain civilian reached his hometown, people attended his last rites.
As the news spread in the area, his home town Shopian observed shutdown. Protests also broke out in the town and security forces used force to disperse them.
A police spokesman said here today: “At around 1420 hours some terrorists travelling in a car fired at the security forces at Lazibal crossing but the fire missed target and hit one civilian travelling in a Tata sumo vehicle”.

“The bullet hit civilian later identified as Shakeeb Shabir son of Shabir Ahmad Shah resident of Kharpora, Shopain.Injured was evacuated to the hospital in Anantnag. After giving treatment, injured was reffered to SKIMS Srinagar but he succumbed to his injuries enroute at Bijbehara. Post mortem conducted at Bijbehara and necessary medico legal formalities were completed. At the site of incident 4 empty cartridges were recovered. Alert about the car has been sounded. Police has registered a case and started investigation. Police has sought assistance from the public for any information related to the incident for investigation”, the spokesman added.
And militants today hurled Grenade on Police Station Kulgam  which exploded outside Police Station. Two SPOs and one civilian were injured in the attack. The injured were removed to hospital for treatment and the two SPOs were referred to Army’s 92-Base hospital in Srinagar.
Militants last night attacked a Police Post in Goripora area of Hyderpora on the outskirts of Srinagar and decamped with four rifles.
Sources said that a group of militants barged into the Police Post Goirpora manned by four Police personnel and decamped with four rifles.
Sources said that the militants confined all the four cops and took away the rifles including one Insas, one carbine and two SLRs.
A police spokesman said that militants today attacked an armed guard of JKAP 13 battalion at Budgam and decamped with 4 service rifles of policemen at Goripora (Hyderpora) in in city’s outskirts of Srinagar.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, SP Pani said: “We have started the investigation and the culprits will be produced in front of law and we assure a full investigation of such cases. It’s too early to comment on the number of militants and group involved in the rifle snatching incident of Hydepora. The investigation is in full swing”.
” Yesterday, also,  three people were apprehended at Pampore area. One of them was caught with a weapon and the intention was to carry a weapon snatching incident. Once the investigation is over we will be able to speak on this”, the IGP said.
In the meantime, police said that an Army Party of Victor Force was laying cables and at around 12 noon in Islamic University Road and it came under unprovoked heavy stone pelting by the miscreants who pelted upon the Army Party from inside the IUST as well.
“The Army Party fired in air and immediately Police rushed on the spot to control the situation. As Police reached the spot, the Army was withdrawn from the area. Miscreants started stone pelting on the Police Party headed by senior officers.To control the severe and unprovoked pelting by students/miscreants, the Police Party used few tear smoke shells to disperse the mob. Miscreants also set on fire the cable rolls being laid by the Army. An FIR has been registered into the incident and investigation taken- up”, police added.
