Civil servants visit apple farm

JAMMU, June 23: A group of retired civil servants under the aegis of Central Government Pensioners’ Welfare Association visited apple farm in district Samba, 1600 summer apple plants named as Hariman-99 were planted and have given second crop.
The promoter of this “revolution in offing” is a celebrated Rural Surgeon of Udhampur, Dr KC Sharma.
A group of retired civil servants under the aegis of Central Government Pensioners’ Welfare Association visited Ranjadi Apple farm and saw a great success story of a private initiative in popularizing summer zone apple in Jammu.
Originally, this unique variety of apple was developed by a low ranking official of HP Forest Department at Bilaspur, Hariman Sharma in whose name this variety has been named.
The visiting group included JK Vaid, General secretary of the Association, KB Jandial, former Member J&K PSC, PP Sharma, SD Swatantra and Dr CM Seth, all former Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Dr Subhash Gupta, former Principal, Jammu Medical College, CL Koul, former Chief Town Planner, KK Raina, BD Mal Barna, Ex-Director GSI, BB Magotra and Ashok Sharma.
