CIT Horticulture Director visits ACHR

JAMMU, Nov 29: Dr DB Singh, Director, Central Institute of Temperate (CIT) Horticulture today visited the Advanced Centre for Horticulture Research (ACHR), Udheywalla, Jammu along with Dr KS Risam, Director, Extension Education and 34 participants including HDO’s and technicians of Horticulture Department for 2-days SAMETI program on Technological innovations for enhancing productivity of fruit crops.
Dr Parshant Bakshi, Head, ACHR briefed that the Centre has three main components of Bio Control Laboratory, Tissue Culture Laboratory and Centre of Excellence in Horticulture (Fruits). He emphasized that the Centre acts as a centre for training for up gradation of scientific manpower in modern technologies for horticulture production and has to do work in collaboration with various national and international agencies.
Dr Kiran Kour, Course Coordinator, discussed about the work on cape gooseberry and gave demonstration on high density of guava. Dr Kamlesh Bali briefed about the production of various biocontrol agents of horticultural importance produced under Bio Control Laboratory.
Dr DB Singh hoped that the Centre will cater the need of fruit growers of this region. He also discussed some important aspects on which they plan their future research while Dr Bakshi briefed that by using intercropping in orchards of vegetables and flowers, the farmers will double their income.
It is pertinent to mention that the Advance Centre of Horticulture Research (Fruits), Udheywalla is the nodal research centre of SKUAST-Jammu to undertake basic and applied research for developing strategies to enhance productivity and utilization of sub-tropical fruit crops of Jammu region.
