*Chib distributes prizes

JAMMU, Nov 7: Defeating strong pair of Vipul Saini and Sahil in the summit clash in a close contest, the duo of Avnish and Rahul lifted the men’s doubles badminton title in the 39th Li-Ning State Badminton Championship, which concluded at Indoor Complex in MA Stadium, here today.
Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports, RS Chib was the chief guest on the occasion, who later-on distributed prizes among the winners of various events.
Speaking on the occasion, the Sports Minister said that the development work on new Indoor Complex in Jammu will be initiated very soon to help the budding sportspersons hone their skill and shine at the higher levels.
He further said that Omar Abdullah led State Government is committed to promote sports in nooks and corners of the State, adding that the development of infrastructure for improving the standard of sports is the matter of priority.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were S Jaipal Singh, Director Youth Services and Sports, SS Wazir, President J&K Badminton Association, MS Baba, chief Sports Officer J&K State Sports Council and Durga Dass, Advisor J&K State Badminton Association.
Earlier, in men’s doubles final, Rahul and Avnish defeated Vipul and Sahil in straight sets by (21-15, 21-19) to become the State doubles champions.
Meanwhile, in Under-19 boys singles final, Shantul Raina toppled Manish Sharma by (21-13, 21-9) to claim the title, while in Under-17 boys singles title clash, Divam Gupta trounced Zaafal by two sets to one (2-1) by (21-18, 20-22, 21-12).
In Under-17 girls singles, Sahar Massarat got better of Rupal in the final by (21-9, 21-8) in an easy contest.
Zaafal Chrangoo and Nirbhay prevailed upon the pair of Divam and Divyam by (24-22, 13-21, 21-19) to lift the title, while defending champion, Vipul Saini thrashed Vasu Bhagat by (21-9, 21-9) to lift the men’s singles title in style.
