Chess Premier League gets underway

JAMMU, Dec 7: Historic Chess Premier League got underway at Press Club, here today.
Nine teams comprising of 63 players from 15 districts of J&K are participating in this event.
Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, Secretary J&K State Sports Council was the chief guest on the inaugural ceremony.
Mr Parra was accompanied by Shiv Kumar Sharma, Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council and Ravi Singh, Divisional Sports Officer, Jammu.
Speaking on the occasion, Waheed-ur- Rehman Parra appreciated the efforts of the AJKCA for organizing such a unique event in the state and giving platform to youth to excel and also hoped that sports especially chess will play a bigger role in diversion of youth mind towards sports.
“This game requires minimum infrastructure. It improves the thinking pattern and planning capacity of youth besides improving overall intelligence level of the youth.
Atul Kumar Gupta, President All J&K Chess Association informed that Association has already organized 11 National level events including historic South Asian Championship last year and also has imparted basic chess training to around 50,000 youth of the state with the cooperation of different agencies.
The teams include Chess Champs (Owner Taranvir Singh Gujral), Chess Tigers (Owner Kuljeet Singh Jamwal), Jammu Chess Legends (Owners, Baldev Raj), Kings and Queens (Owner Dr AS Bhatia), Queen and Knight (Owner Raj Kumar), Black and White (Owner, Vikas Nanda), White Knights (Owners Atul Kumar Gupta and Rakesh Kumar Gupta), Trikuta Wizards (Owner Tarunveer Singh Bijral) and Ridhima Chess (Owner Ajay Sharma).
The chief organizer of the event is Kuljeet Singh Jamwal, while Anil Kotwal is Chief Arbiter, who is being assisted by Bindu Pathania, Deputy Arbiter.
