JAMMU, Mar 17: The former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that there is not much new in the fresh bonhomie in the Congress-National Conference (NC) in forging alliance to contest by poll to two Lok Sabha seats of Kashmir valley but the Congress leadership needs an explanation that whether their party too supports the recent highly controversial statements of the NC leader, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, that the youths in  Kashmir were fighting for the Azadi of the “nation” and earlier Dr Farooq had also extended his party’s full support to the separatist Hurriyat Conference by saying that they should move forward,  the NC would back them fully.
Prof. Gupta said that the hate and love relationship between the two had a long history and in 1975, they had come together even after the Sheikh Abdullah had been dubbing the Congressmen as “insects of the dirty lane” but in the prevailing situation the Congress had to explain to the nation that how the party has joined hands with Dr. Farooq who still holds that militants in Kashmir are sacrificing lives for freedom what he had called for “nation”.
Does the Congress do feel so, he questioned and said that if not, how and  why the party has joined hands with the NC, especially when  Dr. Farooq is extending support to Hurriyat Conference and glorifying the terror and more so, terming it for the Azadi of Kashmiri nation.
Prof. Gupta observed that in a democracy elections would come and go but at some level the scruples would have to be maintained especially on issues like that of solidarity of the country and cross border which is creating a hell of the situation and Jawans are faced with a complex problems to protect the Azadi of lakhs of peace loving people of the Vale and unity of the country.
As far as Dr Farooq is concerned, he can change colour at any time, the veteran leader alleged and maintained the past is witness to it that when in power he talks to be tough against terror and out of power tries to be a friend of the perpetrators of the  violence.
Prof. Gupta also recalled that the “Rajeev-Farooq Accord” of the 1986, had resulted in the eruption of militancy in 1989. This fire has not yet fully extinguished even after so many years. What the new alliance would lead to, only the time would show but the Congress would have to answer many a posers to the countrymen, he added.
