CEC writes to PM for inclusion of Bhoti language in 8th Schedule

LEH, Dec 19: Chief Executive Council LAHDC, Leh  Rigzin Spalbar today wrote to the Prime Minister regarding the demand for inclusion of Bhoti language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India.
Insisting that the language is a basic cultural right of the people and closely linked with their economy, culture, social system and political right, CEC wrote that the people of Ladakh and Bhoti speaking tribal communities of Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, West Bengal etc had long been demanding for inclusion of the Bhoti language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India so that due recognition and a mandate is bestowed for constitutional promotion and protection of the language so as to seize the depletion of the rich literary heritage of Bhoti language.
He requested the Prime Minister for immediate attention and early favourable action taken in the best interest of the minority Bhoti speaking people inhabiting through the length and breadth of the Himalayan region who also are the vanguard of our sensitive border with China.
He also forwarded the representation of the religious and political organizations of Leh district for inclusion of Bhoti language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India to the Prime Minister.
