CEC reviews pace of work on developmental activities

LEH, May 21: The Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar on his  2nd day tour to Kharu block today visited Upper Igoo, Lower Igoo, Phuktsey, Shara-Sharnos, Gya, Rumtse, Sasoma Meeru, Upshi,Tuna and Kulum and assessed the ongoing development activities.
The CEC was accompanied by Executive Councilor Agriculture Sonam Dorje, Executive Councillor Animal & Sheep Husbandry Gyurmet Dorje Executive Councilor Tourism & CA&PD Mohd Shafi Lassu, Councilor Igoo Tashi Norboo, SDM Kharu Ghulam Mehdi and team of district officers and Engineers.
At Igoo, Councillor Igoo Tashi Norboo gave a detailed account of the works completed till date and further requested for upgradation of the existing BSNL tower which is incapable to cover whole of the area.
CEC also inspected the Igoo nallah training project that is being constructed at a cost of Rs 35 crores under Irrigation & Flood Control. Due to the work being carried out these days there is scarcity of water for irrigation to which CEC gave directions to I&FC to look into the matter for supply of appropriate water for cultivation purpose.
With both Sheep and Animal Husbandry centres opened at Igoo, the villagers urged CEC for shifting of the Sheep Husbandry Centre and to strengthen the Animal Husbandry Centre instead of the Sheep Husbandry Centre, as there is no need of Sheep Husbandry for them, by shifting the staff from Sheep to Animal Husbandry.
CEC gave directions to SDM Mehdi to settle the matter of land issue between villagers of Igoo and Army and instructed him to inform the Council before any action is taken otherwise it becomes difficult to amend the actions once taken.
Talking about the independent projects under Leh Nutrition Project being carried out without the consent of the villagers that are proving less beneficial in some ways, the people requested CEC to look into this matter.
Shara villagers also requested for a solution of drinking water problem. CEC gave directions to I&FC to construct canals for the benefit of farmers during the on-going cultivation season.
CEC also heard the grievances of Upshi and Tuna villages and assured of redress of the same in phased manner.
