Ceasefire violation issue rocks Assembly

JAMMU: Entire opposition members from National Conference and Congress on Saturday rocked Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on the issue of ceasefire violation along international border and the Line of Control blaming BJP for its “failure” in safeguarding lives of the civilians while BJP members also raised anti-Pakistan slogans in the House.

The opposition members later staged walkout from the House. As soon as the House assembled for day proceedings, Opposition members from National Conference and Congress criticised PDP-BJP government over casualties on borders in Pakistan shelling.

Amid slogans, the opposition benches accused BJP of “drama” and “failing” in safeguarding border dwellers. The NC members also targeted the MoS PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh for his Friday remarks wherein he had said that those leaders speaking on Pakistan’s behalf cannot be pardoned. NC working president Omar Abdullah on Friday had batted for Indo-Pak talks to normalise situation along the border.

“What has Dr Jitendra Singh said? This is condemnable,” NC MLA Ali Mohammad Sagar Sagar told the House. He shouted, “Are we anti-nationals? BJP has failed in safeguarding the lives of people.”

The NC and Congress members however, raised anti-BJP slogans asking them, “where is your 56-inch chest,” in apparent reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile the BJP MLAs raised anti-Pakistan slogans following which the opposition resorted them saying, “you only know slogans.” Jammu and Kashmir Minister for law and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri, in a reply to the House said that the Government will put forth its version. Amid ruckus, the opposition staged walkout from the House.  (AGENCIES)
