JAMMU, Jan 30: A delegation of Pharma traders led by president Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI) Rakesh Gupta met the Health and Medical Education Minister Bali Bhagat and demanded cancellation of allotment of shops in Hospitals here to a Delhi based firm.
The CCI president said that Health Department decided to provide space for running of 24 X 7 Chemist shops in all the hospitals of Jammu province through manipulated tenders to accommodate a tainted firm owned by a non-state subject. He pointed out that five Chemist shops have already been allotted by the Government in Medical College Hospital Jammu and three shops in SMGS Hospital.
He alleged that the chain who has been allotted these shops has been accused of selling “counterfeit” stunt, is a “favourite” of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) authorities here since it has been given three shops on the PGI Camps in blatant violation of tendering terms and conditions. Also many medicines supplied by the firm to the J&K Medical Supplies Corporation have been found substandard.
CCI and the Jammu Chemist Association and Jammu Pharmaceutical Association warned the Coalition Government that if the allotment to an non- State Subject is not cancelled, they shall be left with no choice but to call for a shutdown of Chemist shops in Jammu province.
Gupta and Pharma traders apprised the Minister of the whole gamut. The Minister gave a patient hearing and asked for proof that the shops run by Delhi firm were selling Medicines at higher rates than available in the market and assured proper action if the same is found true.
