JAMMU, Oct 22:   A large number of casual labourers and need base workers held strong protest demonstration  under the banner of J&K National Trade Union Front at Press Club here today.
The casual and need base workers under the leadership of Gafoor Ahmed Dar, president of the Front assembled at Press Club near Exhibition Ground here in the morning and started protest demonstration, followed by dharna for several hours. They were demanding regularization in their respective Govt departments.
The agitating workers were raising slogans in support of their demand. They were also carrying banners and placards depicting slogans. Mr Dar while addressing the gathering of  workers said that Government has already agreed to regularize all the 40,000 casual labours and need base workers of different departments. A formal agreement in this regard stands signed between the State Govt and the leadership of the working class and recently in the month of July 2014, the leadership of casual labourers met the  Chief Minister in his office at Srinagar regarding the subject.
The Chief Minister had assured that the Cabinet Sub Committee headed by Finance Minister A R Rather has been assigned the task  and it would be done before assembly elections. But it is unfortunate that nothing has been done in this regard so far and moreover election schedule is going to be announced any time now. Mr Dar appealed the Chief Minister to intervene personally and issue an order in this regard.
Prominent among others who addressed gathering included Rajinder Kumar, Vikram Jeet Singh, Devi Dass, Raj Singh, Peeran Ditta and Asif Iqbal.
