Srinagar, Sept 28: Contesting candidates for the elections of new body of Zishta Devi Prabandhak Committee today sought free and fair poll.
In a statement issued here, the contesting candidates said that they held a detailed meeting with election authorities who are camping in the premises of Mattazishtadevi. “We raised the strong objections, as the authorities didn’t have their email account and are using the email ID of Mattazishtadevi, on which the present body have easy access and can monitor the voters from anywhere,” they said.
Moreover, they said, “we also raised the strong objections for the time given to receive the ballots back which is from 5th  October to 14th October which is not enough, we requested to extend the date till October 22 as there are voters outside India and even from the Mumbai and Delhi”.
The statement said that one of the election commissioners failed to redress their concerns and “it looked as he wants to finish the elections in hush posh manner thus giving an edge to the present party and seemed motivated”. “There was one more concern that the present party is still holding the office complex and having easy access to the documents and election office while code of conduct is in force,” it said.
The candidates said that given the “if reasonable concerns are not addressed well in time, the elections would be meaningless”. “In the larger interest of the shrine and devotees we request the election authorities to be impartial and extend the time for receiving the ballots till 22nd of October so that maximum participation of the devotees is possible,” they demanded.
