JAMMU, Oct 25: Canara Bank Employees Union Jammu & Kashmir State Committee held its fourth conference here, today.
The conference was attended by over one hundred employee delegates, who had come from all across the State and represented various branches of the Bank in the State. Chairman Reception Committee and Arun Kumar Gupta, secretary, State Committee, welcomed all guests and delegates to the conference. The conference was presided over by president State Committee Nisar Ahmed.
The conference was inaugurated by the All India general secretary of the Union, Ajay Manjrekar and was graced with the presence of its Union president Dr. VK Singh and C.S.Venugopal.
Manjrekar in his inaugural address, affirmed Bank employees total opposition to all such attempts that seek to marginalize the public sector banks in the country. Manjrekar asked the employees to remain ever vigilant against the overt and covert attempts of the Government and Management in this direction. In this backdrop Manjrekar asked the employees to forge unity in their ranks so that these attempts are squarely met with our unity.
VK Singh, Union president , spoke at length about the basic changes that the Government wants to introduce in banking sector. He reiterated Union’s opposition to all such moves that aim at curtailing and minimizing the role of public sector Banks.
Venugopal in his address referred to the pending wage revision of the Bank employees and reported on the success so far achieved on this front. He was sure of immediate revision coming into force any time.
The inaugural session was followed by the in house delegate session in which the State secretary, Arun Kumar Gupta placed a detailed report about Union’s functioning. Nearly ten delegates spoke on the report. The conference thereafter went ahead to elect its new State Committee. Nisar Ahmed was elected as Chairman and Arun Kumar Gupta was re-elected as State secretary. Nisar Ahmed presented a vote of thanks.
