Campaign on Systematic Voter’s Education organised

LEH, Oct 2: District Administration in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra today organized a special campaign at Chushot Shamma under Systematic Voter’s Education & Electoral Participation Plan (SVEEP).
The campaign was organized under the Action Plan of Election Commission of India aimed at educating the people about becoming voter and use of voting rights for progress and prosperity of the nation.
The campaign was attended by the Sarpanchs, Panchs, Nambardars, BLOs, officials of Revenue Department and villagers of Chushot Shamma.
Deputy Commission, Simrandeep Singh, who is also the District Election Officer, presided over the campaign and said that major objective of this drive is to ensure inclusion of all those persons in the electoral roll who are attaining 18 years of age on January 1, 2014.
He briefed the public representatives and the people in details about the filing of claims and objections by using Form 6, 7, 8 and 8-A for addition, deletion, correction and migration during the month long special Summary Revision drive and urged upon the people to take utmost advantage out of it and ensure greater participation for a stronger democracy.
Leh district has 1,40,000 population as per the census of 2011, of which 80% are above 18 years, DC said, adding that by excluding the defense personal, Leh should have an anticipated 80,000 voters against the existing 76,000 voters. He said the missing number of around 4,000 voters could be either the students studying outside Ladakh or those who are not included in the voter lists so far.
He said that administration has already initiated measures by contacting the Students Unions at Jammu, Delhi, Chandigarh which are steadily fetching good results. Mr Singh said that Leh Assembly segment has so far achieved 94% Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) coverage while as Nubra Assembly segment has registered 98% EPIC coverage.
DC said that 100% EPIC coverage will be made in both these Assembly segments well before the general elections and in this context, he urged upon the BLOs and other concerned officials to work hard.
