Bunkers for health centres in border areas

Several health centres in border areas of five districts of Jammu region are slated to get individual bunkers in order to provide treatment to the victims of firing and shelling from across the border. The shelling and firing from across the border by Pakistani soldiers very often target even health centres situated along the International Border and the Line of Control. Under this tense situation, in the absence of any protective cover, providing treatment to the victims becomes difficult. To overcome this, construction of bunkers has been decided.
This follows instructions from the Governor N N Vohra to initiate the process whereby Health Department has to submit list of such centers to the Home Department through the Divisional Commissioner Jammu. With this measure, it is hoped that health centres in the border areas will be in a position to provide immediate treatment to those who get wounded on account of hostilities from the other side of the fence.
This experiment of constructing of a bunker in the past at Sub- Centre Garkhal in Akhnoor area of Jammu district turned out to be fruitful; hence the necessity has been felt of doing it further in more than 30 other centres to benefit the border dwellers. All such border heath centres in five border districts of Jammu region have been identified and other formalities in respect of furnishing of necessary information stand completed. That is commendable indeed but it is hoped, at the same time, that the actual construction work starts at the earliest and gets completed within reasonable timeframe.
