Bukhari reviews progress of post-flood rehabilitation, reconstruction in Jammu

JAMMU, July 1:  Minister for Law, Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Relief & Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari today reviewed the progress of restoration of infrastructure in Jammu division damaged in the September 2014 floods.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner Secretary Relief and Rehabilitation, Dheeraj Kumar Gupta, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation Soujanya Sharma, Chief Engineer R&B Jammu, Director Local Bodies, Technical Officer to CE Irrigation and Flood Control, SE UEED besides other senior officers were present in the meeting.
Commissioner Secretary, Relief & Rehabilitation gave an overview of steps taken post-September 2014 floods to restore the affected services and public utilities.
He also briefed the Minister about the progress achieved on submission of DPRs/schemes by the line departments as per the broad estimates in the memorandum presented by the State Government submitted to the Centre.
It was informed that under Special Plan Allocation (SPA), 51 works have been taken up by R&B Department at a total cost of Rs. 93.04 crore. “For the restoration of Sher-e-Kashmir Bridge   Poonch, construction of two additional spans have been taken up and the work has been started on ground having cost Rs. 9 crore”, the meeting was told.
The Minister asked the Divisional Commissioner Jammu to direct concerned Deputy Commissioner to submit the report to Advocate General regarding the site inspection of bridge at the earliest as asked by   High Court.
The meeting was also informed that damaged   Nikki Tawi Bridge would be partially restored and made traffic worthy for Light Motor Vehicles by July 15.
“The work has been taken up by R&B Department by way of restoration of the balance portion of the bridge which will be made functional /trafficable for light motor vehicles by July 15.  As a permanent measures, new bridge having a span of 300 meters has been entrusted to JKPCC”, the meeting was told.
Commissioner JMC Soujanya Sharma informed the meeting that the Corporation has started desilting of major city Deep Drains in Shakti Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Talab Tillo, etc. He apprised that sufficient men and machinery has been deployed for desilting to complete the work at the earliest in view of approaching monsoon.
The Minister assured that sufficient funds would be provided to take all measures to prevent deluge and water logging in the city during the rainy season.
The Minister was also informed that under SDRF, out of 3238 spot damages to irrigation network, 2085 spots have been temporarily restored. It was also informed that under permanent restoration, out of 1293 spots, 604 have been completed, while work on other 255 is in progress.
