Building workers hold dharna

KATHUA, Feb 6: The Building Construction Mazdoor Union Kathua led by Central Industrial Trade Union and CPI(M) held a day long protest dharna at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park Kathua led by CPI(M) MLA Mohd Yousf Tarigami . On the occasion numbers of labourer working in building construction drawn from  Kathua district joined the protest dharna.
They also took out protest march which started from Sahheed Bhagat Singh  Park and marched to DC Office Kathua. They were raising the slogans in favour of their demands.
While addressing, MLA Kulgam MY Tarigami criticized the discrimination with the laborers. He said State and Central Government have failed in all fronts and in giving justice to labor class. He said that our protest march in support demands of laborers is for their rights and demanded that Government should declare laborers as workers and announce the monthly salary of RS 18000 PM .
He said that the demands are also concerning to daily wagers, casual laborer, Asha workers, Aganwari workers and other laborers who are fighting for their livelihood . He said by holding dharna at district level we wanted to open the ears and eyes of the Government so that the laborers may get Justice.
He also asked the Government to speed up the registration process of laborers in Labour Department and clear all pending dues and compensation issues in favour of laborers.
Tarigami also appealed the people of Kathua to maintain the peace and harmony in the district as the district is gate way of J&K State . He alleged that both the alliance partners in State Govt. are fighting each other on one issue or another  and poor people are deprived of their rights.  On the occasion Union leaders of worker union also join the dharna.
