Budget lacks innovation: PDP

JAMMU, Feb 18: Four members took part in the discussion on Budget in the Legislative Council today. The members who spoke included Bashir Ahmad Magray, Sham Lal Baghat, Jahangir Hussain Mir and Syed Asgar Ali.
Initiating the discussion, Bashir Ahmad Magray termed the proposed Budget as people and farmer friendly. He said while health sector has received due consideration, the initiatives taken for improving power scenario in the State are also appreciable.
Appreciating the efforts of the Finance Minister, Magray said that all sectors like PHE, Education, Agriculture, R&B, Animal Husbandry etc have been given due consideration while allocating funds in the present Budget.
Sham Lal Baghat also appreciated the Budget proposals and greeted the Finance Minister for the attention given to Panchayati Raj Institutions.
Jahangir Hussain Mir while appreciated the Budget proposals suggested that Government should focus on promotion of handicrafts, horticulture and other Industrial Sectors besides utilising the mineral wealth of the State, particularly in Poonch and Rajouri districts.
Syed Asgar Ali said though the Budget is tax free but lacks innovation as far as revenue generation is concerned. He said no concrete steps have been taken for creation of jobs, promotion of tourism sector, establishment of big industries. He said despite launching Saffron Mission, the production of saffron is decreasing.
Asgar pleaded for promotion of religious tourism and demanded creation of required infrastructure for the devotees going for Machail Yatra. He said that money received as water use cess should be earmarked for development of the area where Power Projects have been established especially in Chenab region.
