JAMMU, Mar 12: State Unit of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has strongly criticized the Election Commission of India for deferring Assembly elections in the J&K State.
Addressing a press conference here today, SR Majotra, state president, who was flanked by other senior leaders of the BJP State unit, expressed displeasure over the decision of the ECI for ignoring J&K State. He said during visit of the full Election Commission to the State recently , majority of the political parties with one voice represented before the Commission to hold Assembly elections in the State simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls, but the decision of the ECI shocked many in the State.
The BSP leaders condemned the decision of the ECI with regard to deferment of the Assembly elections, and maintained that Commission has ignored the majority of the political parties and tried to appease a particular section. A great injustice has been done with the people of Jammu and Kashmir by the Commission, BSP president maintained. It shows that a particular political party wants to run away from elections.
Majotra alleged that from these unfortunate developments, it seems that State Governor and Election Commission were working as per the dictates from BJP leadership at the Centre. The BJP has already controlled all the agencies in the State. Its MLAs are no more but they still inaugurating projects and laying foundation stones, in sheer violation of Code of Conduct and all ethics. Ther State administration was mute spectator to such un-parliamentary practice. A few Union Ministers and State BJP functionaries were indulging in the working of the State Administration. He said DC Kathua was shifted to Udhampur but making mockery of the system within five days he was brought back to Kathua.
Senior leaders Charanjeet Bitta, R K Thappa, Pritam Chand and Badri Nath also accompanied Majotra.
