BSNL internet services suspended in Ladakh

LEH, Mar 27: The isolated region of Ladakh which is yet to be reconnected with rest of the world by surface after being remained close during winter becomes more isolated due to the breakdown of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) at Zojila, which has affected the BSNL internet services in Ladakh.
The recent heavy snowfall around Zojila resulted in multiple landslide and avalanche at various locations which broke down the OFC cable completely affecting the internet user which includes EVDO, WiMAX, 2G, 3G and Broadband.
Net services suspended since 18th March which not only hampers the business activities of the travel trade alliance as during this time of the year tour operators get maximum inquiries and booking through emails but also the communication of Indian Army at large.
BSNL TDM Phunchok Dorjay informed that fault is located 53 kilometers from Drass where the upper and lower roads of Zojila meet towards Sonamarg side. He further added the restoration of OFC is not possible until road is cleared. He informed that all the subscriber of Broadband, WiMAX, EVDO, etc will be given rebate for the breakdown period.
