JAMMU, Feb 22: The Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistani Rangers today held a flag meeting at Octroi Post along the International Border (IB) in RS Pura sector in which the BSF lodged strong protest with Pakistan over digging of tunnel to facilitate infiltration attempt by the militants in Ramgarh sector. However, both the sides committed themselves to maintaining peace on the International Border.
Official sources said the Commandant level meeting was led by PK Anand, Commandant Station Headquarters, Jammu and 12 Chenab Rangers Commander Lt Col Irfan Khan from Pakistan side at Octroi Post this afternoon in which the BSF gave pictorial and video evidence to the Rangers on a fresh tunnel detected in Ramgarh sector of Samba district, which was unearthed by the BSF last week.
The tunnel had been dug from Pakistan side and was just 20 meters ahead of fencing when it was detected by the alert BSF personnel.
The BSF lodged protest with the Rangers saying the tunnel can’t be dug without Pakistan connivance as it originated from their side with posts of the Rangers not too far away.
The Rangers, as usual, remained in denial mode.
The BSF, however, presented irrefutable evidence to the Rangers on Pakistan’s support in digging of the tunnel, sources said.
The BSF also sought return of constable Sohan Lal of Jammu and Kashmir Police, who had crossed over to Pakistan inadvertently in 2014 besides other routine issues related to management of border.
“The meeting was held in cordial atmosphere with handing over of sweets and decision to maintain cordial relation, peace and tranquility along the International Border,’’ sources said.
