BSF jawan killed in Pak sniping in Tanghdar

SRINAGAR, Feb 20: A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel was killed after he was hit by a Pakistani sniper fire from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today.
The soldier, Sunil Kumar Murmu, was deployed at a forward defended location (FDL) along the LoC in the area, when a Pakistani sniper shot hit him in the abdomen. The solider was removed to hospital and later he was evacuated to Army 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar by an Army chopper. He succumbed to injuries at the hospital tonight.
Army has intensified its vigil in the area along the LoC to prevent any infiltration from the sector. The patrols have also been intensified near the fence.
A BSF spokesman said :”Today at about 04:50 PM, Pak regulars violating ceasefire, targeted Constable S K Murmu of BSF deployed in FDL on LoC in Karnah Sector (Tanghdar) by sniping. He sustained critical bullet injury in stomach. Injured Constable was evacuated to Army 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar where he succumbed at around 8:30 p.m.”  Born in 1989 born, Kumar joined BSF in year 2013. He belonged to Langritar village in district Jamui of Bihar.
In the meantime, troops along LoC in Uri sector of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district have been put on high alert after Indo-Pak troops exchanged fire yesterday.
Pakistani troops yesterday violated ceasefire and targeted Army posts in Churanda village. Army retaliated and firing continued till late in the evening yesterday, during which a woman was injured.
Sources said that Army fired heavily on Pakistani posts and there are some casualties on their side. They said that the Pakistani troops may retaliate so the vigil has been intensified in the area.
Sources said that the villagers today remained confined to their homes due to threat of firing from across. Army has also intensified its vigil and patrols along the LoC in the sector to counter any “misadventure” from Pakistani troops.
And in South Kashmir, Army today said an attempt by 2-3 militants to attack a Water Pump House outside Air Force Station at Awantipora in Pulwama district was foiled by alert guards.
“2-3 (militants) fired and lobbed grenade at the Air Force Water Pump House Malangpora located outside Air Force Station Awantipora at around 1730  hours today. The fire was effectively retaliated by alert sentries,” a Defence Ministry spokesman said here.
“The (militants) fled. There is no loss of life or property (in the incident),”the spokesman said, adding searches have been launched to trace the attackers. “The search operation is underway,” the spokesman said.
A police officer said that Army and police cordoned off area but militants managed to escape. “No arrests were made so far,” the officer said.
Police and 55 RR of Army this evening cordoned off Narbal village of Pulwama district after reports about presence of militants in the village. As the security forces laid the cordon, people of the village came out and pelted stones at the security forces who fired in air to disperse them. They also fired tear smoke to disperse the protesters. The cordon was, however, on when last reports came in.
