Union Minister of State in PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh has drawn the attention of Human Rights activists to highlight atrocities perpetrated by Pakistan on the people of PoK. It is for the first time that video recording of police brutalities on demonstrators in Muzaffarabad and other places in PoK has been telecasted by news channel. This gives a lie to Pakistani propaganda that there is no anti-Pakistan trend in PoK and Gilgit and Baltistan. As is her wont, Pakistan alleges that the video recording is fake and the handiwork of Indian intelligence. This is how Pakistan has been misleading her own people and those in Kashmir. The world knows now that Pakistan suppresses the freedom movement in PoK, which is part of the State of Jammu and Kashmir, and on the other hand, she promises to offer liberal moral, diplomatic and other support to Valley insurgents. This is the double speak of Pakistan. We were more than convinced that a day would come when the people of PoK will have to bear the brunt of what they conspired to do against the people of the valley by aligning themselves to ISI in the early days of Kashmir armed insurgency. However, that apart, the fact is that Pakistan is trampling under foot the human rights of the people of PoK who want to get rid of Pakistan and its military grip.
The recent video recording should induce right organizations with a sense of humanism and they have the moral duty of defending the human rights of oppressed people in those areas. PoK has a very large and well-knit Diaspora in UK, which is politically active. It is the duty of that Diaspora to come to the rescue of their brethren back in PoK. They should garner support for their compatriots by organizing demonstrations in London and elsewhere in the UK like Luten or Birmingham where they have concentration. They should also make representations in the British Parliament to record their resentment on the violation of human rights of their compatriots back home. Likewise, they should make strong interventions in the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva so that the international community is convinced that Pakistan is the tormentor of Kashmiris, an enemy trying to decimate the entire Kashmiri people in both parts across the LoC.
