BOSE exams from today amid tight security

SRINAGAR, Nov 13: After initial indecisiveness and uncertainty, the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (BOSE) is conducting examinations from tomorrow amid unprecedented security arrangements around the examination centres across Kashmir.
As per notified date sheet, BOSE will be conducting exams of class 12th from November 14 (Monday) and class 10th from November 15 (Tuesday) amid unprecedented security arrangements.
Officials said 550 exam centres have been established for 55000 candidates for class 10th examination while as 484 exam centres have been set up for about 48000 candidates for class 12th examination across the Kashmir Division. The officials said that a strict vigil is being maintained on all these centres and they have been categorized into various categories from the security point of view.
State’s Education Minister, Naeem Akhtar, told reporters here on the sidelines of a function, that all the arrangements that were supposed to be done by the administration have been done. “And, God willing, I am hopeful that exams will be conducted in peaceful atmosphere and children will get all the facilities they need,” he said.
Admitting that 98% students have already collected their admit cards even as Government gave March 2017 option for exams, Akhtar said that whatever the circumstances the exams are bound to happen.
The Education Minister said that though the examinations were scheduled on October 1 but then they gave one-and-a-half month time to students apparently due to the prevailing circumstances in Valley. “I hope everything will go smoothly,” he said. When asked about the hardships that students are facing due to mobile internet clampdown, the Minister said that the internet would be restored gradually.
The officials said that examination material has been dispatched to respective police stations for their further distribution on exam day and as per reports the police officials themselves would deliver the material at these centres on exam day. They further informed that the special control rooms have been established across the Kashmir at the level of CEOs and ZEOs while a control room has also been established at Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) office for better coordination.
Police said adequate deployments have been placed at the disposal of District SSPs and the security arrangement for all the centres and for the transportation of examination material have already been worked out.
According to BOSE, the annual examination for Class 10th will conclude on November 28 while for Class 12th the examination will conclude on December 3.
