KATHUA, Feb 7: Fed up of Government and politicians fake promises to solve their grievances , the hundreds of border residents of 22 villages of Hiranagar International Border (IB)  under the banner of  Border Welfare Union staged dharna at SDM  Office, Hiranagar near here today.
The border residents in large numbers came on tractor trolleys, scooter motorcycles and horse carts in shape of a protest rally started from border village Chakra March to Hiranagar.  They were raising slogans in support of their demands.
As they reached SDM Office at Hiranagar they sat on dharna under the banner of Border Welfare Union Hiranagar led by its president, Nanak Chand in support of their genuine demands. They raised slogans in support of their demands and against the Government.
The vice president of Border Union Bharat Bhushan while highlighting the problems of border residents demanded the RBA status for people living on International border as they were facing the unprovoked firing from Pakistan as the people on LOC are facing.
He said they are forced to migrate many times with bag and baggage. But they don’t get any compensation against the loss suffered by them on the pattern of LOC . He also demanded five marlas plot in safer places as promised by the present Government to shift their children,  women folk and elders in safer places during the firing . Besides compensation of crops amounting to Rs 5 crore  is lying with district administration since years. He demanded land compensation for construction of ditch cum bands on zero line and Rs four crore for construction of 135 feet  track road on zero line besides  land compensation of fencing land be paid to border people.
He alleged that many State and Central leaders visited the border area and made numbers of promises during the firing time. But nothing has been done on the ground. All the promises are on the papers and both the State and Central Government pass bucks on each other, he added.
He said that the dharna will continue till the fulfillment of their demands and visit of  Union Minister in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh on dharna site .
If the Union Minister does not come, they will continue their dharna for next two days and then will sat on hunger strike .  They also  submitted a memorandum of demands to SDM Hiranagar  which was addressed to Chief Minister. Among others Nanak Chand , Rattan Chand , Ajit Verma , Surjit Kumar and Parmodh Kumar were also accompanied in the dharna.
