Book titled ‘History of Maryul Ladakh’ released

Doyen of Ladakhi Language, Literature honoured

LEH, Sept 18: In an impressive function, Gyalmo Diskit Wangmo, former Member of Parliament, Ladakh released the English version of Tashi Rabgias book titled ‘History of Maryul Ladakh’, here.
On the occasion, a galaxy of Ladakhi writers, scholars, citizens and relatives of the writer were present in the Conference Hall of Grand Dragon Hotel, here to admire the eminent scholars by presenting the ceremonial scarf Khadak. Speaking on the occasion, Chewang Phuntchok, former Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir State termed Tashi Rabgias as the Grand Old Man of Ladakh and spoke in length on his life and his association with Tashi Rabgais.
Prior to that MLA Nawang Rigzin Jora talked in length about the life of the doyen of Ladakhi language and threw light on the cultural scenario of Ladakh. Speaking about his own personal association, Jora said that the contributions made by Tashi Rabgais in the field of culture is immense, who besides being a historian is equally an acclaimed master of Buddhism, Buddhist philosophy but lamented that the Ladakhi society which is now heading towards individualistic and self concerned way have forgotten to respect and admiring the persons who played pivotal role in shaping the destiny of the society.
On the occasion Dr. Nawang Tsering presented his review of Tashi Regis’s book ‘The History of Maryul Ladakh’, translated from Ladakhi language into English by Sonam Gyatso, the grandson of Tashi Rabgias.
Dr. Nawang said that the book is written in a lucid manner and will help to understand the glorious history of Ladakh. People present on the occasion pleaded for conferring Padma award to Tashi. Music concert were held on the occasion in which reputed artists of J&K Cultural Academy sang the selected composition of Tashi.
In the function Nawang Tsering Shakspo, former Chief Editor of Jammu and Kashmir, Academy of Art, Culture and Language, Leh termed Tashi as the maker of modern Ladakhi literature.
