Body reported to be that of Sunil Tripathi being examined

NEW YORK, Apr 25:  The office of Rhode Island Medical Examiner last night was trying to determine whether the body pulled from a river was that Indian-American student Sunil Tripathi.
The missing Brown University student was on social media networks mistakenly linked to the Boston bombings last week.
An autopsy was being conducted on the body; however, it might not be a positive identification that would be made, Dara Chadwick, spokeswoman for the office, was cited as saying by ABC.Com.
The body was reported to be that of a male in his twenties. It had in the water ‘for a while,’ said Commander Thomas Oates of the Providence (the capital of Rhode Island) Police Department said, according to the TV news report.
Tripathi, 22, from Radnor, Pennsylvania, was last seen on March 16. The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s release of a photograph of one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects had triggered a social media frenzy..
Earlier news reports had cited a resemblance between the man in the photograph and Tripathi.
The Tripathi family described on Facebook that it was ‘painful’ attention. The family rejected the claim that neither of the suspects was Sunil, also known sometimes as Sunny.
The FBI became involved in the search for Tripathi last month, expanding the search across the US Northeast after authorities found no sign of him in the Providence area.
Sunil’s sister Sangeeta told ABC earlier that it was highly unlikely that her brother would go missing without informing anybody.
His cell phone and wallet were also left behind, she said, describing him as a ‘smart kid.’
Boston.Com reported that the family has not been officially notified about the body.
