JAMMU, Mar 30: Bhawan Nirman Mazdoor Sangh (BNMS) today highlighted their demands like enforcement of proper welfare schemes and elected its new body, during its general body meeting held today here at Geeta Bhawan.
The meeting was chaired by president of the Sangh, Sagar Chand and attended by senior leaders of the Sangh as well as large number of workers from Jammu, Akhnoor, RS Pura, Mandaal, Samba, Purmandal, Reasi, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Doda, Kathua and Kashmir.
Harbans Choudhary, general secretary, BNMS, put up the report of functioning of the union as well as problems being faced by the workers. A number of resolutions were passed in the conference.
The speakers alleged that J&K Workers’ Welfare Board is not functioning properly, stating that present Board has not been constituted under law, as there is no workers’ representative in the Board as per the Act and only Government official have been nominated in the Board.
The union demanded that the Board be reconstituted and representation to central labour organizations be given. It is further demanded that pension scheme be introduced for the building construction workers and compensation be given to unregistered building construction workers if they met with an accident while working on the site.
The meeting said that the provision should be made in the registration form for adding a column for nomination, as in case of death the family members face hardships in getting succession/dependent certificate. “Besides, in Rules, Appellate authority be mentioned when there is any problem to workers in getting financial assistance or otherwise”, the meeting said.
It was also demanded that sitting sheds, toilets and drinking water facility be provided at the places where workers gather in the morning and wait for getting work. The union said that if their all these demands are not fulfilled, they will start agitation against the administration.

The newly elected body comprised of Sagar Chand as president, Ashok Choudhary, Balwant Raj, Yash Pal and Fatha Ram as vice presidents, Harbans Choudhary as general secretary, Dev Parkash, Roop Lal and Tanveer Ahmed Dar as secretaries and Chanan Singh as cashier.
