BNMS accuses Labour Department of harassing construction workers

JAMMU, Aug 30: The Bhawan Nirman Mazdoor Sangh, affiliated to Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh has accused the State Government, particularly Labour Ministry of J&K of harassing the workers by enforcing new rules and guidelines.
“From the day one when this Government assumed office, the functioning of Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has been totally stopped by the new CEO without considering the ground realities and plight of the poor workers,” said BNMS State general secretary Ashok Choudhary while addressing a press conference, here today.
While elaborating, he alleged that new rules and guide lines were being enforced without taking approval of the Board and that has created discontentment among the workers.  “Govt is also not serious towards the welfare of the workers of private/unorganised sector as the tenure of the J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board ended in 2013 but new board has not yet been constituted so for and from 2015 not a single meeting of the board has been called by the Labour Minister who is its chairman,” Mr Choudhary said.
“The death cases claims and education assistance cases are lying pending form the last year in the district offices of Assistant Labour Commissioner throughout the State,” he alleged and demanded that J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board be reconstituted without any further delay and due representation be also given to Bhawan Nirman Mazdoor Sangh and other genuine trade unions.
Mr Choudhary also demanded that the formalities which has been completed prior to April 2015 regarding Registration, Claiming Marriage Assistance, Education assistance etc, be accepted and new guidelines be kept in abeyance till approved by the Board.
BNMS also appealed to Chief Minister and Dy Chief Minister for independent Labour Minister to ensure better functioning of Labour Welfare Schemes and functioning of Labour Department which deals with the poor and economically weaker section of the society.
The press conference was also addressed by the senior leaders of BMS, Harbans Choudhary, Roop Lal, Dev Parkash, Kuldeep Raj, Kali Dass and Shamsher Chand .
