BMS, AWWA to observe black day on Feb 20

JAMMU, Feb 16: Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) and Anganwari Workers’ Welfare Association (AWWA) will observe black day on February 20 against the Central Government and J&K Government’s budget for 2018-19.
Announcing this while addressing a press conference here today, leaders of BMS and AWWA including Subhash Verma, BMS president and Swarna Choudhary, AWWA president, said that both Central Government and the State Government’s budgets were disappointing and there was nothing for scheme workers whether they are Anganwari workers, ASHA workers, NHM employes, MGNREGA employees or Mid Day Meal workers.
The leaders of BMS and AWWA appealed all the scheme workers to participate in large number in dharnas/demonstrations, which will be organized on February 20 at Jammu, Udhampur, Billawar, Kathua and Samba by the associations to observe the day as black day.
Highlighting the demands of the anganwari workers such as enhancement of salary (Rs 15000 per month for Anganwari workers and Rs 10000 for helpers), social security benefits, retirement benefits, pension scheme and 100% promotion as supervisor, they appealed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of the State, Mehbooba Mufti to consider the demands of low paid workers immediately failing which strong action will follow.
Ashok Choudhary further declared that if their demands were not accepted, in the 2nd phase of the agitation, Anganwari workers will hold demonstration/dharnas in mass scale on February 26 at Jammu and BMS will boycott Indian Labour Conference, which will be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
