Blind murder solved by Akhnoor police, accused arrested

JAMMU, Apr 15: Akhnoor police solved the murder case of a man with the arrest of the accused within 24 hours.
As reported, body of Mohammad Abdullah alias Dulla, son of Fakar Din of Fatu Kotli, Garkhal tied with ropes and sand bags was found in a rivulet on the banks of the Chenab at Garkhal yesterday.
After recovering the body, a case under FIR number 73/14 under Section 302 RPC was registered at police station Akhnoor and investigation started.
During the course of investigation, police rounded up some suspects out of which one of the suspect broke down and admitted to have murdered Mohammad Abdullah.
The accused has been identified as Rahim-ud-Din, son of Sayed Alam of Panjipara, district Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal.
It was revealed during the course of investigation that the accused, who was working as Mason in Jammu for the last many years was putting up at Fatu Kotli, Garkhal in a live-in relationship with Hamida Begum who had earlier been married to one Fayaz Alam of Islampur, West Bengal but had abandoned him two years back alongwith her kids.
The accused wanted Hamida Begum to be divorced by Fayaz Alam, which was not being agreed upon by him. The deceased who was married to the elder sister of Hamida Begum namely Kohinoor Begum promised the accused to get Hamida Begum divorced for a consideration of Rs 10, 000 to be paid by the accused which the accused agreed and allowed Hamida Begum to travel to Punjab in first week of March 2014 with the deceased and his wife Kohinoor Begum to get the needful done.
However, the accused came to know in mid March, 2014 that Mohammad Abdullah and Hamida Begum have since returned back from Punjab leaving Kohinoor Begum behind and that Hamida Begum has been living in a rented room at Beli-Charana which was arranged by the deceased.
The accused suspected Hamida Begum of having illicit relationship with the deceased and got infuriated. On March 30 evening, the accused called the deceased in his Kulla located at Fatu-Kotli, Garkhal on the pretext of making the payment of the promised sum of Rs 10, 000. Both had dinner together and the accused asked the deceased to stay for the night as he was expecting somebody with the amount the next morning where after both slept.
However, the accused got up at 2:00 am and slit the throat of the sleeping Mohammad Abdullah with a sharp knife leading to his on the spot death. The accused packed the dead body in a blanket, shifted it to the rivulet, tied it with sandbags and threw it in the water.
Police have recovered the weapon of offence, the blood stained clothes and the mobile along with simcard of the deceased upon the disclosures of the accused.
The accused has been arrested and shall be produced before the court tomorrow.
The case has been worked out by SHO Akhnoor police station Inspector Pardeep Sharma under the supervision of Farooq Qaiser, SDPO Akhnoor, SP Rural Mohan Lal Kaith and SSP Jammu Atul Kumar Goel.
