JAMMU, Feb 23: Bharatiya Kissan Sangh, State general secretary, Subash Dasgotra today demanded issuance of passbooks to the farmers containing the record of the land held by them.
Dasgotra reminded the ruling BJP that this was a long pending demand of the party when it was in the Opposition but regretted that after coming to power, the party has virtually given up the demand and was not fulfilling it. He said the farmers would benefit a lot if they are given passbooks carrying revenue record of their land.
Calling for an immediate end to sale of irrigation land for commercial purposes, Dasgotra said the farmers would be hit hard if the irrigation land continued to be converted. He demanded digging of canals in the areas, where water has not reached so far saying this would help the farmers irrigate their land.
He demanded that Cooperative sector should be encouraged in the State.
