BJP protests at Leh Airport

LEH, Feb 7: BJP staged a protest rally at Leh airport here against the Airport Authority Leh unit under the leadership of Tsewang Gonbo district president of the party. The protesters spent over two hours in front of arrival and departure gates shouting slogans against Leh Airport Authority, whose inefficient performance exhibit a negative impression among the international travelers of Ladakh.
Prominent leaders including general secretary Dorjay Angchok, vice president Nazir Ahmad, Yuva Morcha President Tashi Khachu, councilors (Upper Leh, Markha, Chushul & Durbuk & nominated councilor minority), Mandal presidents and workers participated in the protest rally. While protesting at the airport, it is learnt from reliable sources that the Central heating system is kept intentionally switched off for unknown reasons.
The rally concluded at Deputy Commissioner Office after submitting a Memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Leh, Prasana Ramaswami who ensured the protesters to convene a meeting of all stake holders including, airport security personnel, and managers of all the airlines on January 9 at 3:00 pm to resolve the issues pertaining to AAI Leh.
AAI Leh completely failed to meet the minimum service standards required for such airports from all angles and in addition they found to be involved in illegal collection of entry fee and the premises and public conveniences found filthy and miserable State. Director airports authority Sonam Norboo took responsible for all the allegations concerning malfunctioning of the terminal and promised to resolve each and every loophole in near future. He promised to end up charging 50 Rs to the private cars with immediate effect.
He also promised to maintain the Central heating and cleanliness of the airport premises from today on wards.
