JAMMU, Oct 21: Former minister and senior NC leader Ajay Sadhotra today alleged that BJP is befooling the Kissans and playing with the future of the families of Kissans by ignoring the genuine and just problems and demands of farmers. ed
Addressing a protest rally of farmers at Phallain Mandal, organized by National Conference Block Mandal Phallain, against non-payment of compensation to the Kisans of their damaged standing paddy crops and vegetable crops due to hailstorm on October 11 in border villages, Sadhotra said it is very unfortunate and surprising that till date no compensation to the farmers has been given for the damaged standing crops. It shows the insensitiveness of BJP Government towards Kisans. Even proper assessment has not been made and the expert committee has not been constituted as yet.
National Conference leader said the Revenue department of Mandal Tehsil is making mockery of the Government. Kisans are being forced to pay to get their losses assessed. The protest march passed through the main bazaar of Phallain Mandal.
He sought immediate intervention of Governor Satya Pal Malik for grant of compensation of damaged crops at the rate of Rs 10,000 per kanal to the farmers Credit Card holders and non-Kisan Credit Card holders as over 40% Kisan Credit Cards are yet to be prepared.
Former Minister said that compensation be given to the owners of the land as well as labourers also who have no other source of income. Kisans are ready to forego compensation if government gets their fields cleared and prepared for the next crop. He alleged that BJP Government is pushing the Kissans towards wall. The future of the families of Kissan is being made dark as kissan has become hand to mouth, farming is becoming costlier day by day and return is very meager, said Mr Sadhotra.
Prominent among others who joined the protest included Raghbir Singh, Bishan Das, Master Kavi Raj, Baru Ram, Khajur Chand, Charan Dass, Ch Jit Raj, Jag Mohan, Mulakh Raj, Man Mohan, Karan Singh, Swarn Singh, Pardeep Sharma, Lajpat, Sham Lal and Dalip Kumar.
