NEW DELHI, Jan 12: Hitting out at Congress, National Conference (NC) and other parties, which are accusing BJP of trying to delay the Assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said here today that BJP is one Party which is ever-ready for any election at any time, while it is the others who hide behind the “boycott” call when they are unable to face the heat of election or find the timing of election unfavourable for them.
Speaking to media persons after the conclusion of the two-day BJP National Council meeting here today, Dr Jitendra Singh was commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s valedictory address, in which the latter had referred to the boycott of the recently held Urban Local Body elections by certain political parties in Jammu & Kashmir.
It is strange, said Dr Jitendra Singh, that the leaders of some of these Parties have the cheek to make an unsubstantiated charge that BJP is trying to delay the J&K State Assembly elections, while they are themselves unable to explain as to why they had boycotted the recently held Urban Local Body elections in the State. If, indeed, they boycotted the local body elections on the claim that they were doing so to protect the 35A, then these parties owe to explain to their own electorate as to whether the issue of 35A has now been resolved according to their wishes or they are now taking a U-turn in a blatant bid to seek ministerial berths for themselves.
A political party which does not respect grassroot democracy and which does not believe in the “autonomy” for Panchayats, has no moral right to claim “autonomy” for itself through undemocratic imposition of dynasty rule.
When asked about CBI, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the Prime Minister, in his address, had made a beautiful illustration which needs to be followed by every law-abiding office-bearer and all those who respect the constitutional institutions of India. He said, Narendra Modi, during his 12 year tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat, faced all kind of harassment and interrogations in the hands of CBI, at the behest of the UPA Government at the Centre, but he came out unscathed through legal means by fighting out the false charges on the basis of truth. Never did once, Narendra Modi, as Chief Minister, thought of putting a ban on CBI from entering Gujarat, as is now being done by some of the non-BJP ruled States, possibly because the ruling parties and the rulers there have something to hide from the CBI, he added.
Meanwhile, a delegation from Leh, led by Chief Executive Councillor Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and former Minister Chering Dorjay, called on Dr Jitendra Singh and discussed the current political situation there.
The leaders from Leh were assured by Dr Jitendra Singh that the Union Home Ministry has already taken up the issues brought up by them. He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself takes a keen personal interest in the development of the Ladakh region.
