BILLAWAR, Mar 11: Demanding creation of Billawar District, the Billwar Zila Andolan held meetings at Ludera in tehsil Ramkot and at Janota in tehsil Billawar, in which many prominent people of the area took part. The meeting at Ludera was presided over by B R Upadhiaya and at Janota Punnu Ram Jamodia chaired the meet.
Addressing the meetings, convener of the Andolan, Hari Chand Jalmeria said that the creation of districts in the State was uneven and unreasonable. “Neither area nor population have been made the criteria for creation of districts. Merely political or other extraneous considerations have been made bases for creation of districts in the State. In the Valley of Kashmir, small areas and population form districts whereas in Jammu Province, districts have much larger population and areas. Similar is the condition of Assembly constituencies,” he said and termed it as discriminatory approach which has led to a feeling of neglect amongst people in Jammu Province.
