Biker dies in accident at Vijaypur

SAMBA, Mar 3: Protests sparked at Vijaypur and the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway was blocked today, as a motorcyclist was hit to death by a bus in Samba district.
“A motorcyclist died on the spot this afternoon, when his bike bearing registration number JK21-5773 was hit by a school bus bearing registration number JK 14 A-4245 near Hanuman Temple in Vijaypur area of Samba,” police said.
The deceased was identified as Rattan Singh (65), resident of Burj Sheru, Supwal, in Samba district.
The family members and relatives of the deceased after hearing the news rushed to Vijaypur and blocked the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway. They demanded compensation and job to the next kin of the deceased.
The protesters did not allow police to lift the dead body and accused police and Traffic Police of its failure in shifting the dead body to Hospital in time that caused his death. They blocked the NH for three hours resulting in the problems to the commuters as well as students.  The driver of the vehicle also fled after the accident leaving the victim in pool of blood.
As the local administration failed to pacify the protesters the District Development Commissioner, Samba, Sheetal Nanda, SSP, Samba
Anil Magotra, SDM Vijaypur Ravinder Sharma and SDPO Abhishek Sharma rushed to the spot and assured the protesters to arrest the driver and give justice to the victim. On this assurance they lifted the Highway blockade around 4:00 pm and took the dead body to their home for the cremation.
The protesters were demanding the arrest of bus driver and Government job to the next kin of deceased.
