Bid to smuggle 16 bovines foiled, two arrested

JAMMU, Sept 1: Carrying forward the drive against the people indulged in bovines smuggling, police nabbed two persons along with 16 milch animals, which they were trying to smuggle to Valley in a truck from Bantalab area of Nagrota.
As per police sources, on specific information regarding smuggling of bovines from Jammu to Valley, police team raised a naka at Bantalab in Nagrota area and signaled a truck bearing registration number PB13AA-9078 to stop near Bantalab.
On seeing police team, the truck driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot. Sensing something fishy, police cops chased the vehicle and intercepted it.
During checking, police team rescued 16 milch animals from the vehicle and nabbed two bovines’ smugglers on the spot, who also tried to escape from the spot after abandoning the vehicle.
The accused have been identified as Altaf (driver), son of Mohammad Rashid of Kokernag, district Anantnag and Shakoor Ahmed, son of Noor Alam of Gol Gujral.
A case under FIR Number 188/15 under Section 188 RPC and 3/5 PCA Act has been registered against the accused at Nagrota police station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Nagrota Inspector Dileep Singh made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Bharat Bhushan Sharma and Incharge SSP Jammu Rajiv Pandey.
It is to mention here that, Jhajjar Kotli and Manwal police yesterday seized a truck carrying 13 bovine animals and arrested the driver under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Bharat Bhushan Sharma.
