Bharat Petroleum, JU conduct ‘Walkathon’

JAMMU, Feb 3: To spread the awareness of conservation of energy, Bharat Petroleum in collaboration with Jammu University conducted ‘Walkathon’, here today.
Since Petroleum products are limited and increased use of fossil fuels is leading to the environmental changes, a need to spread the awareness on changing the mind-sets of end users is the need of the hour.
For this purpose, a month long programme is conducted by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas in association with PCRA (Petroleum Conservation Research Association) and Oil CPSEs from January 15 to February 15 every year. During this various programmes are conducted spreading the message of judicious usage of energy.
Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd., India’s second largest Oil Marketing Company thought it prudent to involve masses at Jammu University this time to spread this message.
As the campus had a mixed crowd of students, morning walkers and runners, over 200 participants got themselves involved in the ‘Walkathon’ conducted jointly with Directorate of Sports and Physical education, University of Jammu.
During the event, a brisk walk and two running competitions were held under different categories of gender & age groups.
Top three in each category were given mementoes and free fuel Coupons apart from distribution of collared T shirts with caps to the participants.
On the occasion, BPCL placed a Mobile Medical Van with Doctor and Paramedic staff in the campus for free medical check-up of masses.
Manoj K Dhar, Vice Chancellor in the presence of Registrar, Dean Students Welfare and Director Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu flagged of the Walkathon.
A pledge was also read and sworn to all the present in the presence of BPCL staff, University students, Members of Jammu Runners Group (JRG) and media persons, who were present on the occasion along with their staff.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Dhar advised the gathering as to how fossil fuels are formed over the years and how fast are they consumed, hence their judicious usage becomes need of the hour.
Rajesh Sharma, Territory Manager (Retail) for J&K stated that as a society, we have a responsibility towards future generations of Indians for sustainability of energy and a cleaner environment.
He appreciated the efforts of Dr Daud Iqbal, Director Sports & Physical Education and Jammu Runners Group represented by Rajesh Padha, Rajeshwar Singh and Dilawar Khan for making this event a success.
Winners of the various events on the occasion were Kamal Deep Singh, Darshana, Mukesh, Amit, Mohd Javaid, Shiraz from Jammu University.
Zoha Akhter, Aneesa Nabi, Gurmeet Kaur, Satbir Singh, Sumit Singh and Abhishek Gupta from JRG and Ashok Kumar, Rajan Singh and Raju Gupta, from Morning Walkers.
