SRINAGAR, Aug 19: Saying that Government has prioritized the promotion and upgradation of sports sector in the State, Minister for Horticulture, Housing, Culture and Youth Services and Sports, Raman Bhalla said that sports infrastructure is being upgraded on modern lines at par with an international standards so that youth from the State are able to compete at international level sports competitions besides national level events.
He said this after inaugurating Corporate office-cum-Administrative complex of J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC) constructed at a cost of Rs 1.57 crore here at Bakhshi Stadium.
MLA, Hazratbal and member J&KSSC, Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, Secretary J&KSSC, Dilip Thusu, Chief Sports Officer J&KSSC, members of J&KSSC besides other officers and officials of JKSSC were present on the occasion.
Bhalla said State is fertile in sports and Government has launched a number of projects for upgradation and promotion of sports sector. He said focused attention is being given to channelize and nurture the talent of budding youth and proper platform embedded with latest sports infrastructure is being provided to them at all corners of State.
He said that the construction work of Astro turf football stadium coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 4.5 crore at Pologround Srinagar will be completed soon. He said work on Olympic size swimming pool being developed at Gindun Park Rajbagh is also under progress on which Rs 4.28 crore are being spent.
Bhalla also revealed that remodelling of Indoor and Outdoor stadiums in twin cities of State at Jammu and Srinagar is also being taken up for which DPR has been completed and an estimate amount of Rs 75 crore has been earmarked. He also said that Indoor stadia at Pologround Srinagar and Government Degree College Baramulla are also being constructed and Rs 3 crore are being expended for each besides three new stadia at Sopore, Handwara and Dooru are under construction.
On the occasion, the Minister was informed that 10 players are going to Korea to participate in international Thangta Championship from August 23.
Minister also gave away awards to the players who had represented the State in National Canopolo Championship at Udaipur and bagged bronze medal.
Responding to the demands of the employees of JKSSC, Minister assured them that their genuine demands will be fulfilled soon on priority.
