JAMMU, Feb 19: Congress today organized “Chaurahe Pe Charcha” under the leadership of former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla to discuss the effects of demonetization on the common public at RS Pura today.
The programme was organized by former MLA and Congress leader Prof Garu Ram Bhagat and Sarpanch Ravinder Singh. Raman Bhalla while addressiong, asked the Government how much black money has been unearthed since 8th November, 2016? What is the economic loss to the nation on account of demonetization? How many jobs and livelihoods have been lost since this policy has been announced, why were experts, economists or the RBI not consulted before unleashing this draconian policy upon the people. All the cash dependent consumption-led sectors such as retail, wholesale, jewellery, hospitals, healthcare, diagnostics, trading, restaurants, transport, logistics are severely affected. Real estate/construction transactions, which are partly dealt with in cash, have been affected jeopardizing millions of jobs in construction.
Bhalla called for expediting work on all the key projects so that these are completed within the set time-frame besides expediting development works, ensuring good governance and providing a hassle-free administration by reaching out to the people and mitigate their grievances. He said with the present pace of delivery, there is still huge gap in decision-taking and implementation on the ground.
Highlighting the issues of border residents, Bhalla said that the year 2016 brought back nightmarish memories of past wars for thousands of border residents in the Jammu region whose lives remained on the edge because of myriad ceasefire violations by Pakistan.
Bhalla said that the party is ready for early polls but sought free fair and transparent delimitation of Panchayats across the State. He took objections to be mode and manner the delimitation of wards in the Panchayats has been undertaken by the PDP-BJP Government thus vitiating the atmosphere for a free, fair and transparent electoral exercise to the Panchayat bodies in the State.
